Bryna is an IBCLC (Internationally Board-certified Lactation Consultant) and has been certified since 2010. Prior to achieving her IBCLC credential, she was a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor). She has been trained as a birth doula, working with families since 2006. She has undertaken additional training and continuing education in the areas of oral restriction management, Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT), Primitive Reflexes in infants, TummyTime™, cultural congruency and competency, and counseling strategies. Bryna is also certified in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (infant and adult).
Initial home visits are 1.5-2 hours long, and are completely comprehensive. Bryna has special expertise in the areas of tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) and other oral restrictions. She also has a specialized area of expertise in parents and babies who have undergone birth or postpartum trauma, and babies with specialized medical needs. She can help with any feeding question from simple to very complex.
Bryna also offers personalized hospital visits. She can come to your room or to the NICU as long as visitors are allowed and approved by your facility. As a visitor, she can offer assistance and consultation on the topic of lactation and infant feeding.
Office Visits are Bryna's primary mode of consultation. She offers home visits to doula clients, clients who book prenatal visits, and clients with twins or medically fragile babies under two weeks of age. Twins visits need to be booked as such as they take a significantly longer amount of time than a singleton visit).
Doula work & specialty
Specialty? Is that common for a doula? Nope! Most doulas are generalists- the busiest doulas see upwards of 100 births per year- each unique! The births Bryna attends are all unique as well, but they have the distinction of being high-risk or surgical births. That doesn't mean she doesn't attend typical births, but she has a lot of experience and knowledge in the area of high-risk and cesarean birth.
Bryna's fee is $1700 per birth. This includes:
2 Prenatal visits (1.5 hours each)
Full-Birth Attendance: From onset of active labor (or OR prep) to early postpartum
Help with baby's initial breastfeeding
1 postpartum lactation consult ($235 value) included in fee
Belly Binding is a method of binding a postparum parent's abdomen with cloth to encourage the fascia to heal more quickly and with the reduced weight of gravity on the core and lower back.
Wrap and hand-made bind: $150
Rhythmic Movement is a movement based, primitive (infant or neonatal) reflex integration program that uses developmental movements, gentle isometric pressure and self-awareness to rebuild the foundations necessary to help overcome learning, sensory, emotional and behavioral challenges for children and adults. Bryna uses movement in conjunction with other approaches to help babies (especially babies with trauma) with breastfeeding and other feeding difficulties.
